Doing the right things at the right time can help the victim to get fast recovery. It can also help to prevent permanent disability or even death.

If you are more management minded and want to make a difference, you could consider a career as a placement agent or account manager. A job such as this will place you in the interview phase of the home health care process. You will meet with the family or the client and assess their needs and help create a plan of action that will provide the best options for the care needed.

If you prefer to work directly with the patient, you could consider becoming a home health aide. This job will allow you to interact directly with the patient. This is a good position for someone that wants to see the immediate rewards of the efforts they put into their job. You can work directly for the patient, or their family, or you can work through an agency that will place you with a patient.

There are several types of positions in most home health care agencies, but the two most common are Personal Care Aide (PCA) or a Home Health Aide (HHA). Both of these positions require specific training and supervision by a Registered Nurse. Although both positions are similar, there are some differences between the two.

A Personal Care Aide gives the patient help with the activities required for daily living. They may help bathe the patient and help them with walking and exercise. They are also trained to assist with toileting, and transfers with mechanical lifts. A PCA will often be employed to assist with cleaning, running errand, and providing meals.

A Home Health Aide provided all the nonprofessional nursing services listed above. They can provide all the same services as a PCA, but a HHA is additionally trained in other areas. They often provide services such as recording fluid intake, or taking the vital signs of the patients. They may also provide assistance with bandage changes and are trained to recognize signs of infection.

First of all, too many people needing home health are under the impression that if they are to receive home health services, they must accept the ongoing or company assigned to them by the discharging hospital or referring physician. This is not only a common myth, but it is also very illegal.

The fact is, if you are needing home health services, all you need is a physician’s order for home health services to satisfy Medicare.

Many physicians are affiliated with rehabilitation companies or home health companies and try to lead you to believe you must take what they give you. Patients are many time too timid to ask for something different.

Nothing could be further from the truth!

When you receive an order for home health services, you can request a specific home health company. In fact, you can even request specific therapists, nurses, or any other facet of home health service or therapy that you like. The discharging hospital or referring physicians are obligated to accommodate your wishes, within reason.

Too many medical groups have created the impression that you have to take what they recommend. This is because many of them have some kind of vested interest in you receiving what they prescribe.

Some physicians have even told patients that if they didn’t accept the home health company or therapist they specified, they would not write the order.

Again, this is illegal and Medicare would be very interested in finding out this information.

Moreover, Medicare is very interested in hospitals or physicians who are only looking after their own interests. Medicare would like to be contacted whenever a physician insists upon you using a certain home health company, rehabilitation group, or medical supply company.

This is called a conflict of interest and again, is very illegal. The reason for this is because many of the physicians referring these services, receive “kickbacks” in the form of financial amenities, or other bonuses. Many times, a physician doesn’t own the company. However, they may own the building the home health company or rehabilitation company works from. When they refer patients for home health services or rehabilitation services, the company receives reimbursement from Medicare. In turn the physician will charge is company outrageous rent fees, and is able to collect by referring patients. This is an indirect form of receiving kickbacks, and again, is illegal.

How To Avoid Being Victimized

You must first be knowledgeable with Medicare laws and regulations. You must also inform your physician that you know the Medicare laws, regulations, and more importantly, your rights as a patient.

Never accept a home health company from your physician if you don’t feel completely comfortable with their services. Even if you receive a referral to receive home health services from a specific company and find that you’re not happy with this company, you have the right to change companies. Furthermore, if you find that the nurses or therapists are not to your liking, you can change nurses or therapists. Many home health companies display behavior that is not consistent with the best interest of the patient. The nurses or nurse liaison, or therapists, may be rude, money driven, or power-hungry, or all of the above. What you need to do is inform the home health company that you wish to change companies and that you are informing your physician of this information.

Next, contact your physician and request a different home health company, nurse, or therapist. Most of the time, your physician will be cooperative. However if you need to be more insistent, you can inform your physician or the referring nurse, that you are well aware of the Medicare laws and regulations. Let them know that you will indeed file a complaint regarding this matter if your wishes are not respected.

The basics of health and safety at work start with having proper First Aid. Every organization big or small must have proper First Aid Kits and systems. While at work, people can suffer an injury or fall ill. It is very important for the company / firm to have proper arrangements so that the employees can receive immediate medical attention. A person who has received proper training for administering First Aid should be appointed for this.

Fire safety is of prime importance at work. The potential hazards and sources of fuel, oxygen & ignition etc should be identified. Proper Fire detection and warning systems should be in place to prevent any mishaps. Fire extinguishers should be kept ready in different places throughout the building. There should be exit doors and escape routes in the building. Electrical equipments and wiring should be proper and checked at regular intervals. Since you opened up the HDHP, you now qualify for the Health Savings Account. The account is nothing more than a place to put the money you saved every month up to the deductible amount annually which for our example is $2600. This account is then used to pay for the bells and whistles that you stripped out of the typical insurance. When you go to the doctor you pull out your Health Savings debit card and pay for the doctor. You save money for qualified health expenses with tax deductible contributions and tax-free withdrawals.

Here is where the real savings happen. If you don’t go to the doctor or anything that year, the money that you saved rolls over into the next year where you can start saving again. This happens year after year, earning you interest and rolling over, again and again. You have the chance to build a little nest egg that you never thought you would never have. You have now taken control of your health care.

You can use the Health Savings Account for covered expenses that apply toward your annual deductible. You can also pay for qualified medical expenses that are not covered by the health plan such as vision care (glasses, contacts) or dental or braces or long term care. Get a Free Year – Ever hear those health club gimmicks that allegedly give you 1-year of free membership when you pay for an entire year in advance? You are probably just really paying for two years worth of subscription. Ask around and see other health clubs and you’ll see that you’re not really getting much of a bargain. Don’t forget that gyms and health clubs are high-maintenance businesses. They need a lot of income to ensure optimal service for their clients so throwing in a full year of free health club access may indeed be too good to be true.

Low Monthly Rates – Is there really no catch to those extremely low monthly subscription rates? Well, no – most of the time there is a catch. And this usually comes in the form of very long contracts. These, of course, are not good. What if their service deteriorates a few months since you’ve started? This effectively puts you in a trap where you would have to pay for the entire duration of the contract regardless if you wish to leave later on.

Win a Free Membership Raffle – Fill a form for a chance to win a free membership to the health club. Few people have ever heard of anybody winning these dubious raffles but plenty have heard from unrepentant sales people over the phone trying to convince you to sign up in their health club! This is of course, thanks to the telephone number you conveniently provided to them by filling out the so-called raffle stub.

Free Training Sessions – Spending time with their exercise or fitness trainers won’t provide you with much information, but you’ll get plenty of sales talk. If they offer free training sessions, prepare yourself for a lot of hard selling and incessant talk about getting a membership. Let’s face it, after being entertained for so long, you’ll probably feel guilty not to sign up! You would do better by inspecting the premises instead.

Exaggerated Advertising – Ever see such low rates being advertised by certain health clubs? How about those money back guarantees? Or how about those state of the art gym equipment that promise to make your workouts painless? You would be surprised how far some health clubs go just to make a sale. Yes, many would stoop to lying just to make you get a membership. Always try to validate all their claims. Check the facility. Ask for specifics about the service agreement. Read the entire contract. If there is even a hint that they are lying about any of their services, then exercise (pun intended) your right to refuse their offerings.

There are also a variety of free online calculators you can use that let you play around with various scenarios and see how it impacts your bottom line. You can also request free insurance quotes by filling out a simple form on a number of websites.

Insurance providers calculate group health insurance premiums based on many factors. Some important considerations are:

Group health insurance plans cover normal as well as emergency medical treatment. The insuring company pays medical expenses, in part or in full. The actual amount paid to a healthcare provider depends on the type of policy you buy, but in general, more coverage will be more expensive.

Employees can often opt for additional coverage in an employer-provided group health insurance plan. Typically if an employee wants to extend the coverage to spouse, he can do so by agreeing to pay the additional payment.

In today’s group health insurance plans, the employer usually pays from 25% to 50% of the premium and the employee pays the rest, but there are some companies that pay 100% of the premium. Plans like fee for service, HMO, PPO, POS are all available to groups, though each employer will most likely pick a subset of these to offer to their employees.

AFFORDABLE HEALTH INSURANCE: INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY

The popular adage – ‘Health is wealth’ is proving to be increasingly true as medical and hospitalization costs continue their seemingly relentless rise. If you can manage to stay healthy, you can save tens of thousands of dollars in lower insurance premiums and medical cost-avoidance. But that’s not always under our control. Thus, making the health insurance purchase decision is a critical one. With so many options, and so many stakeholders involved, choosing the right health insurance can be an extremely frustrating task.

While the fee-for-service type of managed care plan has been around for a while now, managed care plans are also very popular. Fee-for-service insurance requires you to pay a certain part of your medical expenses in advance and then submit the remainder of your medical bill to the insurer for reimbursement. While fee-for-service insurance gives you the freedom to visit health service provider or hospitals of your choice, the downside is that you may have to file claims, track payments and end up paying higher out-of-pocket costs.

Managed care plans necessitate an agreement between the insurer and a network of selected healthcare providers who must meet certain quality standards. Managed care plan policyholders are offered financial incentives to use the services of (only) the healthcare providers in the network. Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO) and Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO) are the two types of managed care plans. A HMO is a prepaid health plan wherein you pay a monthly premium. While costs may be low, the HMO decides which healthcare provider you’re allowed to visit at each stage in your treatment. By contrast, a PPO allows you to choose your healthcare provider… but if you choose one outside of the PPO network, your out-of-pocket costs will be higher.

It’s important to remember that you always have full control of the insurance policy you buy. While it’s difficult to negotiate (as an individual) on specific plan points with carriers, there are an incredible diversity of plans available out there, and you should never be afraid to “vote with your feet” if you find a better deal.

SMALL GROUP HEALTH INSURANCE

Employers attract employees by offering them attractive incentives and benefits, and one of the most valued benefits is a comprehensive health insurance plan that fulfils most medical expenses of the employee (and his or her immediate family) at a low cost.

Most plans stipulate that any employer with between 2 and 50 employees is eligible for Small Group Health Insurance. When you contact a broker or insurance provider, you’ll be asked to provide birth, age, and medical details of each employee, including any pre-existing medical conditions amongst them. While it’s illegal in most states for insurers to deny to insure groups because of pre-existing conditions, such medical problems might make your rate-quote higher than it otherwise would be.

Depending on the size of your company and your financial constraints, you might choose to pay between 75 to 80 % (also called co-payment) of the premium… or the entire amount. It’s really up to you, as an employer, to decide what’s fair for your existing staff and attractive to prospective employees. If the employee chooses to include a dependent under the group coverage it is not compulsory for you to pay premium for the dependant. When you avail yourself of a Small Group Health Insurance, you are automatically entitled for yearly renewals. Employees pay a standard deductible before receiving insurance benefits paid by the employer. The deductibles usually range between $200 and $2,000. As a rule, the higher the deductible, the lower the monthly premium.
